Prayer Concerns for the week of 12/26/2011

Burma (Partners Relief & Development — www.partnersworld.org, Free Burma Rangers — www.freeburmarangers.org)

  • Please continue to pray for the 30,000 ethnic hill tribe children and people in Burma’s northern Kachin state who have come under attack by the Burma Army. Last June, a 17-year-old ceasefire between the Burmese government and the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) broke down. http://tinyurl.com/7svfztg
  • Pray for children and parents hiding in the jungle, afraid to return to their homes, villages, and rice crops because of army attacks. Please pray for Kachin women and girls who have been raped by Burma Army soldiers in this conflict. Pray for children, adults, and youth who have been tortured, used as human shields, forced from their homes, or unlawfully arrested or detained. Pray for those who have witnessed family members being killed; who have been forced to work for the Burma Army; who have had their property stolen or destroyed; or who have been displaced from their communities. http://tinyurl.com/c5e2bdf  http://tinyurl.com/7dmlr9d
  • Give God thanks and praise for the work of Free Burma Rangers and Partners Relief and Development in helping the ethnic peoples of Burma. Pray God will provide the staff and volunteers with these organizations the resources they need to care for these marginalized ethnic populations.
  • Pray for peace in these areas of conflict. Pray for the transformation of Burma’s leaders—for changes of heart and attitude toward their citizens. Pray for reconciliation and healing between Burma’s ethnic minorities—the government works to turn them against one another in order to gain control. Pray for the estimated 16 million people, one third the population of Burma, who are members of ethnic minorities.

Dominican Republic (CURE International – www.helpcurenow.org)

  • Pray for the disabled children receiving treatment at the CURE International Hospital in the Dominican Republic and for the medical staff and caregivers there. Also pray for Patricia, a 13-year-old girl, and for two little boys, 8-year-old Wilfredo and 10-year-old Junior.

Philippines

  • Please keep the children and people of the southern Philippines close in prayer as they deal with the aftereffects of Typhoon Washi. Over half the estimated 143,000 people affected by this tropical cyclone are children.
  • Pray for the families of the 684 people killed when the typhoon hit Mindanao island while residents slept. Pray for those who were injured, lost homes, or lost rice or corn crops in the flash floods and mud slides caused by the cyclone. Pray for the loved ones of the 800 people still missing. Please pray that rescue equipment and emergency relief will be able to reach flood-affected areas quickly. http://tinyurl.com/7lmsjrc   http://tinyurl.com/87upz79
  • Give thanks to God that a truce has been declared in the 40-year-old war between rebels of the Maoist-led Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and government forces in order to help flood victims.

United States

  • Please pray for 17-year-old Heather Elliott who was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident early one morning as she waited for a bus to school. Heather was left by the side of the road and might have died from her injuries, but thanks be to God, someone found her and called for help. Pray for healing and comfort—Heather has a fractured spine and back, liver and kidney lacerations, broken ribs, a partial collapsed lung, bleeding in her brain, and a broken clavicle and shoulder. Please keep her parents and friends held close in prayer as they help care for her—Heather’s doctors believe she is due for a long and possibly difficult recovery with extensive physical therapy.  http://www.kgun9.com/news/local/135635828.html
  • Pray for God’s healing touch to be with 12-year-old Ashton who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is receiving treatment at Cook Children’s Medical Center (https://www.cookchildrens.org/Pages/Default.aspx). Please pray for healing for this junior high girl—doctors believe she will have to have two years of chemotherapy treatment. Pray that God will comfort and encourage her during this long process. Pray for Ashton’s family and friends as they provide support for her.

Faces of Children

  • Please pray God’s healing touch will be upon Richard, the husband of a Faces of Children prayer partner, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Pray for his wife and family as they help care for him during this difficult time. Pray for the medical personnel treating Richard—pray God will guard their hearts from being hardened by compassion fatigue.
