Prayer Concerns for the week of 1/9/2012

Democratic Republic of Congo

  • Pray for the children and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who go without food several days a week in what Kinshasa residents call the “power cut.” To make limited food resources last, many families have resorted to rotating who will eat on what day. http://tinyurl.com/6mxcpf8
  • Pray for parents who must make such heartbreaking, difficult decisions (i.e.: allow younger children to eat one day and older ones eat the next day; or children eat one day and adults eat the next day).
  • Pray for children who don’t understand the desperate reasons for these decisions…who only know they are hungry but aren’t allowed to eat. Pray that God will provide for these children and their parents.
  • Pray for a change of heart in the government leaders of the DRC. Pray they will recognize the extremely alarming food situation in their country and address it quickly and fully. The DRC is a country rich in minerals and fertile land, yet half the population is considered undernourished.
  • Pray that food security for all might become the priority over harvesting precious minerals like copper and cobalt.

India

  • Please pray for the tens of thousands of villagers in southeast India who are in dire need of emergency aid after Cyclone Thane struck the coast of Tamil Nadu state on December 30, 2011. Pray God will provide these survivors with the resources and assistance they need.
  • Pray that emergency personnel will be able to get to those most in need, especially vulnerable children and elderly people. Please pray that an abundance of relief supplies will be available for these survivors.
  • Pray for those whose homes, crops, and livelihoods have been destroyed in the cyclone which hit the same coastline as the 2004 tsunami. Aid workers fear the devastation from this severe cyclone may be worse than that caused by the tsunami because the cyclone pushed farther inland.  http://tinyurl.com/6qnj6rd

United States

  • Please keep the family of Sophia Joy held close in prayer as they mourn the death of this newborn baby girl. Sophia Joy was born with a severe heart defect that wasn’t able to be repaired. Pray for God’s comforting presence and the peace that surpasses all understanding for her parents and older sister. Pray for the extended family and friends who are also grieving the death of this baby girl.
  • Pray for 13-year-old Landon as he deals with kidney stones. Give God thanks for the good medical care he received and that he isn’t in pain now. Pray Landon and his family will be able to make adjustments to his diet and routine that will keep the stones from forming again.
  • Please pray for 16-year-old Jack who was injured during a hockey tournament last week. Jack’s spinal cord was severed when he dashed for the puck and was checked from behind and thrown into the boards. Pray for God’s healing touch upon this young man. Pray for his family and friends as they learn to care for Jack’s needs during his recovery. Pray for the players who ran into Jack, causing this injury. http://tinyurl.com/7w6cfd3

Faces of Children

  • Pray that God will bring healing to Annabel, the 8-month-old niece of a Faces of Children prayer partner. Annabel has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a tumor that develops from the nerve cells. This is the most common form of infant cancer and usually occurs in children under the age of five. Pray for Annabel’s parents and family as they care for her and seek the best treatment for her. http://tinyurl.com/843cfxe
  • Please continue to pray that God’s healing power will completely cure 26-year-old Brittany, the friend of a Faces of Children prayer partner, as she begins aggressive radiation treatment for cancer that’s spread to her skull. Pray that this miracle of healing will reveal God’s glory and love to Brittany and all of the people in her life. Pray God will wrap arms of comfort around this young woman and bring her peace.
  • Pray for Pamela, the sister of a Faces of Children intercessor, who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pray that God’s healing hand will be upon Pamela and bring her comfort and peace.
  • Give thanks to God for the new Faces of Children intercessors in Zambia.
  • Please continue to pray that more churches and individuals will join with the ministry of Faces of Children in spreading awareness about children in crisis and inviting more people to pray for children at risk.
